Methods of Migrating WooCommerce to Shopify
There are currently a few effective methods of migration available for you to choose from. Each migration method carries different costs, time consumption, and levels of operational difficulty. We will look at each option in more detail later in this article, but for now, here is the list:
- Manual Migration (Free, straightforward, time-consuming)
- Shopify’s Store Importer App (Walkthrough)
- Litextension
- Cart2Cart
- Ablestar WooCommerce Importer
Manual Migration
Advantages of manual migration:
- You choose what gets exported from WooCommerce
- You can look at the CSV to make sure all data is accurate
- It’s free
Disadvantages of manual migration:
- Shopify CSV import can be picky and cause issues
- Only parent product data exports are allowed, not variants
- Customer data can not be imported
- Orders can not be imported
- Does not handle images
- Time-consuming
Shopify’s Store Importer App
Advantages of using Shopify’s Store Imported App:
- It’s free
- Built by Shopify (you know it works)
- Imports all products
- Imports orders
- Imports customers
- Handles images
Disadvantages of using Shopify’s Store Importer:
- Does not handle URL redirects
- Errors due to how your product and customer data is configured in WooCommerce (if you incorrectly added data)
Litextension
Advantages of Litextension:
- Supports a lot of different platforms
- Migrates variants
- Migrates meta SEO data
- Product categories
- Customer data
- Existing orders
- Reviews
- Blogs
Disadvantages of Litextension:
- US$59 for 100 products, 100 orders and 100 customers (you do the migration yourself)
- US$119 for the same details but LitExtension experts do the migration for you
- Price increases based on the number of products/orders
- Third-party software may require support
- Does not handle URL redirects
Cart2Cart
Advantages of using Cart2Cart:
- Supports a lot of platforms
- 5-hour migration
- All product data including images and URLs
- SEO metadata
- Customer data
- Existing orders
- Reviews
- Blogs
Disadvantages of Cart2Cart:
- Higher price tag than the rest (US$69 for 500 products, 500 orders, 500 customers)
- Price increases based on the number of products/orders
- Third-party software may require support
- Does not handle URL redirects
Which Method Should I Choose?
Budget Option: Shopify’s store importer
- Developed by Shopify
- Free
- Migrates all of the important data you need
- Easiest self migration
Recommended Option: LitExtesion
- Handles A LOT of data
- Handles all SEO data which is a lot of work to redo
- Handles all existing product reviews left by customers = social proof on your products
- Option to pay slightly more and have an expert migrate for you
Another Shopify app that might be worth looking at is Shopify’s WooCommerce Importer App.
Although this app is not 100% clear on exactly which data it migrates, it is safe to assume the data is similar to the rest of the apps. Two main benefits to this app are that it helps with the URL redirects and customer accounts and resetting their passwords for the new platform, which is important.
The downside to this app is it appears to come in pieces with each costing money based on volume. It may also become a more pricey solution.
